Anne Tyler is an acclaimed American novelist known for her insightful and intricately crafted depictions of ordinary life. Born on October 25, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she spent much of her early life in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tyler attended Duke University, where she graduated in 1961 with a degree in Russian Literature. Later, she pursued graduate studies at Columbia University in New York.
Tyler's writing career took off with the publication of her first novel, "If Morning Ever Comes," in 1964. Over the decades, she published numerous critically acclaimed novels, including "Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant" (1982), "The Accidental Tourist" (1985), and "Breathing Lessons" (1988), the latter of which won the Pulitzer Prize. Her novels frequently explore themes of family dynamics, identity, and the passage of time, often set against the backdrop of Baltimore, Maryland, where she has lived for many years.
